A wide range of valve boxes for every setup

Whether it’s a residential garden or big recreational park, irrigation valves are essential tools. Without one, controlling the flow of water in your sprinkler system will be impossible.

For this reason, it’s often described as the heart of the irrigation system. Just like the human heart needs protection, so too do your irrigation valves. Enter: valve boxes.

What is a valve box?

A valve box is an enclosure that covers the valves. It will keep out dirt and debris while allowing for easy access, making maintenance and servicing much easier.

They also come in various shapes, sizes, and even colours. Some are round, while others are rectangular or square.

Which features should you look for in a valve box?

No two valve boxes are the same. One of the most important features that you’ll need to pay attention to when selecting a valve box for your garden in Melbourne is the size. If you get the sizing correct, you’ll have enough room for accessing and working on the valve. For this reason, when in doubt, it’s better to select a box that is slightly bigger. This way, you’ll know that should it be needed down the line to service the valves, you won’t have to dig out the whole valve box. That being said, a common mistake is to overspend and pay more than double by purchasing a jumbo rectangular valve box for a single valve.

To help you get the sizing correct, let the number of valves guide you. Typically, you should try to limit it to three valves per standard, 35cm rectangular valve box.

While valve boxes aren’t necessarily the most attractive to look at, neither are valves. So, it’s best to select a colour that will blend in with the rest of the landscape. For example, if you’ll be installing the valve box next to your grass, a green valve box will look better. Depending on your make and model, you might also be able to find it in black or a lighter, neutral colour. Black, for instance, can blend in better with rocky areas.

That said, while the colour can help you to make the valve box less noticeable, you should also consider placement. It’s strongly recommended that you install your valve box where it will ideally be hidden completely from view. If that’s not possible, the second-best solution is to place it in a less prominent position. After all, the star of the show should be your beautiful garden, right?

Can I modify a valve box?

While tempting, it’s not a good idea to try and modify your valve box to make it fit your unique requirements. The reason for this is simple: you might just remove or change a part that plays a crucial role or decrease its overall strength. If you don’t find the size, shape, or colour for your needs, rather send us a message and our experienced team will be happy to offer suggestions and point you in the right direction.
