Water is of vital importance when it comes to a healthy lawn. However, managing your time and using the right amount of water can be tricky, and if not done right, it can damage the grass and the plants. This is why many people opt for a sprinkler system. It allows them to provide their lawn with the right amount of water, exactly when it’s needed. However, to take full advantage of it, you want your system to be prepared for summer.

Read on to find out the steps you need to take to get your irrigation system ready for summer!

Examine the Soil

The first step you should take is to examine the soil. If you’re living in a place where it’s cold during winter months, you will need to make sure that the soil has thawed sufficiently before turning on the sprinklers. Otherwise, you could damage the system when turning on the water.

Inspect the Sprinkler Heads

Before turning your system on, inspect all the sprinkler heads thoroughly. Check for soil, dirt, and rocks that can obstruct the sprinkler from functioning. If not cleaned, the water could damage the pipes by not being able to flow out.

Fill the Sprinkler System

Once you’ve set up all the controls, you can start filling the system with water. It’s essential to do it slowly because you can prevent the pressure from rising too fast, damaging pipes.

Test the Pressure

Once you’ve turned on the system, use a pressure gauge to check the pipes’ water pressure levels. If there is too much pressure, this could mean that too much water is coming in or a part of your system is blocked. On the other hand, too little pressure indicates that the system may leak.

Test the Lines

After waiting for a few minutes, test every line manually with the irrigation clock. Check that all sprinkler heads are positioned correctly and that there are no leaks. After that, you can set up a schedule on the timer, and you’re good to go!
